Executive Producer Kathryn Hunter THE SHROUD MAKER A moving and bittersweet satire of life in Palestine Hajja Souad sews and sells shrouds for burying the dead in Gaza. They are always in demand. This compelling and moving black comedy inspired by a real-life character takes us on the 70year journey of her life - weaving a harrowing story of courage, love, displacement and survival with comic fantasy and true stories to create a vivid portrait of life in Palestine before the recent heartbreaking events. 'One of the most remarkable performances I have seen in theatre' 'Fantastic piece of theatre - an urgent, sometimes shocking narrative' 'I urge you to see this play. It has much to say about Palestinian / Israeli history... but more importantly, it's a play about individuals and humanity' 'We are used to the political story of the West Bank and Gaza - this gives us the human story - the pain and anguish and the canny humour needed to survive the years of terrible conflict' 'A powerful and committed performance - and a fascinating play' Audience comments |

BORN IN THE USA (Leaving Vietnam) Written & performed by Richard Vergette 'Gripping piece of new theatre writing that should be experienced by all generations' FringeReview.co.uk Michigan. Present day. Jimmy Vandenburg, ex-Ford factory car worker, works alone in his garage servicing the classic American cars of his youth. He is the man 'born down in a dead man's town', the antihero of the Bruce Springsteen anthem, trying to survive in the economic wasteland of the rust belt. A decorated Vietnam war veteran, Jimmy feels his service for his country was ignored after he came home. Trump's call to Make America Great Again appeals to Jimmy's disillusionment. But his new found politics drive a wedge between him and his wife until a chance visit by the son of a fallen comrade makes him doubt his convictions and leads to a profound emotional reconciliation. This multi-layered solo play tells the story of a man who must confront his trauma in order to overcome it. The play bravely challenges assumptions with humour and empathy to explore what drives populist politics and how they seduce the disillusioned and the disaffected. |

LIES WHERE IT FALLS A life-affirming tale of recovery in Northern Ireland performed with gallows humour and soul-bearing honesty At the wounded heart of this compelling, funny and moving solo play, Downton Abbey's Ruairi Conaghan tells the story of the murder of a loved one and the lasting, unpredictable trauma that flowed from it. At a time when the violent legacies of Northern Ireland's recent past have never been more important to talk about, and shocking and divisive conflicts play out before us daily, this acclaimed show celebrates the healing powers of theatre by using storytelling, song, poetry, humour and Shakespeare to tell a courageous, joyous, uplifting tale of recovery with life-affirming, soul-bearing honesty. If we can find empathy, there is always hope. One of Belfast Telegraph's Top Ten Cultural Events of 2023 One of the British Theatre Guide's Top Choices for 2023 'Ruairi examines the ghosts, issues and legacies of our tattered past in a way that is evocative, inquisitive and eventually hopeful' Jimmy Fay, Artistic Director, Lyric Theatre, Belfast | |
